翻译技巧

　　* much less / still less

　　这个结构一般用在否定表达中，意为"更不用说……"。

　　类似的说法还有to say nothing of, not to speak of, not to mention, let alone等，意思相近，肯定句和否定句都可以用。

　　例1）He knows little of mathematics, and still lessof chemistry.

　　译文：他几乎不懂数学，更不用说化学了。

　　例2）In China, water is so contaminated that in some areas it is unsafe even to touch, not to speak ofuse for irrigation or drinking.

　　中国部分地区水污染程度之重，甚至达到接触都不安全的程度，更不用说用于灌溉或者饮用。

　　例3）Some people never read a newspaper, let alonea book.

　　译文：有些人从未读过报纸，更不用说书本了。

　　例4）He is the most intelligent, not to mention handsome, people I know.

　　译文：他是我知道的最聪明的人之一，而且他还很英俊。
